About azithromycin
What it treats
Azithromycin is a macrolide antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the chest, such as pneumonia and bronchitis, the ears, nose and throat, and the skin, and some sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia. It does not work on viruses, so it is not used for colds or flu. It is on the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines.
Why it is popular
Azithromycin stays in the body for a long time, so the course is short, usually three to five days, and sometimes a single dose. A short course is easier for patients to finish, and it is a common choice for people who cannot take penicillins because of an allergy.
How it is taken
The dose and the length of the course depend on the infection and on the patient's age and weight, and the course should always be completed. The suspension is made up with water for children. It is not suitable for people allergic to macrolide antibiotics. Patients should always follow the approved leaflet and the advice of their doctor or pharmacist.

Questions about azithromycin
Something else? Email [email protected].
Which strengths of azithromycin do you supply?
Tablets of 250 mg and 500 mg, and oral suspensions of 100 mg and 200 mg per 5 ml. Pack sizes and labelling are made to match the registration in your country.
Can you supply it under our own brand?
Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or bottle label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.
Is azithromycin a prescription medicine?
In most countries, yes. Antibiotics are sold with a prescription and registered with the national medicines regulator. Rules differ by country, so check with your authority.
Why is the azithromycin course so short?
Azithromycin builds up in the tissues and stays there for days after the last dose, so a course of three to five days, or sometimes one dose, is enough for many infections. The prescriber decides the length of the course.
Which documents come with it?
Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.
Where is it manufactured?
Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
