About amoxicillin and clavulanic acid

What it treats

Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid treats bacterial infections of the sinuses, ears, chest, urinary tract and skin, dental infections and infected bites. It does not work on viruses, so it is not used for colds or flu. It is on the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines.

Why clavulanic acid is added

Some bacteria make an enzyme, beta-lactamase, that destroys amoxicillin. Clavulanic acid blocks that enzyme, so amoxicillin can work against bacteria that would otherwise resist it. That is why the combination covers more infections than amoxicillin alone.

How it is taken

It is taken at the start of a meal, which improves absorption and reduces stomach upset, usually two or three times a day. The dose and length of the course depend on the infection, and the course should be completed. It is not suitable for people allergic to penicillins. Patients should always follow the approved leaflet and the advice of their doctor or pharmacist.

What is co-amoxiclav?

It is the common name for amoxicillin combined with clavulanic acid. We label the product with the name your regulator uses, whether amoxicillin and clavulanic acid, co-amoxiclav or amoxicillin-clavulanate.

Is the product made in a dedicated penicillin area?

Yes. GMP requires penicillins to be made in dedicated, separate areas to prevent cross-contamination, and the facility's documents show how. Tell us your authority and we will confirm which documents apply.

Can you supply it under our own brand?

Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.

Which documents come with it?

Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.

Where is it manufactured?

Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?

Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
