About cefalexin
What it treats
Cefalexin is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues, the throat and ears, the urinary tract, and bones and joints. It does not work on viruses. It is on the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines.
Why it is used
Cefalexin is a trusted choice for skin and urinary infections, is well absorbed, and is available in forms children can take. It is an alternative for patients who cannot take penicillins in some cases, though people with a severe penicillin allergy may also react to it.
How it is taken
It is usually taken two to four times a day, with the dose set by the infection and the patient's weight, and the dry syrup is made up with water for children. It is not suitable for people with a severe allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins. The course should always be completed, and the label and the prescriber's instructions apply.

Questions about cefalexin
Something else? Email [email protected].
Which strengths of cefalexin do you supply?
Capsules of 250 mg and 500 mg, and dry syrups of 125 mg and 250 mg per 5 ml. Other strengths can be made to order, and pack sizes and labelling are made to match the registration in your country.
Are cephalosporins made in a dedicated area?
Yes. GMP requires cephalosporins to be made in dedicated, separate areas to prevent cross-contamination, and the facility's documents show how. Tell us your authority and we will confirm which documents apply.
Is cefalexin a prescription medicine?
In most countries, yes. Antibiotics are sold with a prescription and registered with the national medicines regulator. Rules differ by country, so check with your authority.
Can you supply it under our own brand?
Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.
Which documents come with it?
Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.
Where is it manufactured?
Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
