About cefixime

What it treats

Cefixime is an oral cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the ears, throat and chest, the urinary tract, and typhoid fever. It does not work on viruses. It is widely used when an oral alternative to an injectable cephalosporin is needed.

Why it is used carefully

Cefixime is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, and health authorities advise using it only when the infection calls for it, to slow the spread of resistance. It is a prescription medicine in most countries, and it is popular for children because of its dry syrup and once- or twice-daily dosing.

How it is taken

It is taken once or twice a day, with the dose set by weight and the infection, and the dry syrup is made up with water for children. It is not suitable for people with a severe allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins. The course should always be completed, and the label and the prescriber's instructions apply.

Which forms of cefixime do you supply?

Tablets of 200 mg and a dry syrup of 100 mg per 5 ml. Other strengths can be made to order, and pack sizes and labelling are made to match the registration in your country.

Are cephalosporins made in a dedicated area?

Yes. GMP requires cephalosporins to be made in dedicated, separate areas to prevent cross-contamination, and the facility's documents show how. Tell us your authority and we will confirm which documents apply.

Is cefixime a prescription medicine?

In most countries, yes. Antibiotics are sold with a prescription and registered with the national medicines regulator. Rules differ by country, so check with your authority.

Can you supply it under our own brand?

Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.

Which documents come with it?

Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.

Where is it manufactured?

Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?

Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
