About ciprofloxacin
What it treats
Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the urinary tract, the gut, such as typhoid and some kinds of diarrhoea, the chest, the skin and the bones and joints. It does not work on viruses, so it is not used for colds or flu. It is on the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines.
Why doctors use it carefully
Ciprofloxacin works against a wide range of bacteria and is well absorbed by mouth, but because of the risk of rare serious side effects and of growing resistance, regulators advise doctors to keep fluoroquinolones for infections where other antibiotics are not suitable. This makes accurate labelling and clear leaflets especially important.
How it is taken
The dose and the length of the course depend on the infection and on the patient's age and weight, and the course should always be completed. Tablets are swallowed with water and are not taken together with dairy products or antacids. It is not suitable for everyone, so it is only used on a prescription. Patients should always follow the approved leaflet and the advice of their doctor.

Questions about ciprofloxacin
Something else? Email [email protected].
Which strengths of ciprofloxacin do you supply?
Tablets of 250 mg, 500 mg and 750 mg, and an infusion of 200 mg per 100 ml. Pack sizes and labelling are made to match the registration in your country.
Can you supply it under our own brand?
Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.
Is ciprofloxacin a prescription medicine?
In most countries, yes. Antibiotics are sold with a prescription and registered with the national medicines regulator. Rules differ by country, so check with your authority.
Why do regulators restrict fluoroquinolones?
Because rare but serious side effects, such as tendon damage, have been reported and because overuse speeds up resistance. Many regulators advise keeping them for infections where other antibiotics are not suitable, and ask for specific warnings on the leaflet. We prepare the leaflet to match your authority's requirements.
Which documents come with it?
Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.
Where is it manufactured?
Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
