About metformin combinations
What they treat
These fixed-dose tablets treat type 2 diabetes in adults whose blood sugar is not controlled by metformin alone. Each pairs metformin with a second medicine that works differently, such as a sulfonylurea (glimepiride or gliclazide) or a DPP-4 inhibitor (sitagliptin or vildagliptin).
Why one tablet
Taking two medicines in one tablet means fewer pills, which helps patients keep to long-term treatment, and a single pack is simpler for pharmacies and programmes to stock. Combinations are among the fastest-growing diabetes products.
How they are taken
They are usually taken once or twice a day with meals, at a dose the prescriber adjusts. The cautions of both medicines apply: metformin needs care in kidney problems and rarely causes a serious build-up of lactic acid, and sulfonylureas can cause low blood sugar. Sitagliptin and vildagliptin combinations may be restricted by patent in some markets. Patients should always follow the approved label and the prescriber's instructions in their country.

Which strengths of metformin combinations do you supply?
Combinations of metformin with glimepiride (500/1 and 500/2 mg), gliclazide (500/80 mg), sitagliptin (500/50 and 1000/50 mg) and vildagliptin (500/50, 850/50 and 1000/50 mg). Other strengths can be made to order, and pack sizes and labelling are made to match the registration in your country.
Which combination should we choose?
It depends on the combinations your regulator has approved and what prescribers in your market use. Tell us your country and we will say which combinations we can supply and which documents they need.
Is sitagliptin and vildagliptin available as a generic everywhere?
Patent and data exclusivity rules differ by country, and in some markets sitagliptin and vildagliptin is still protected. We supply it where it can be sold as a generic and tell you early if a market is restricted. Check with your authority and your legal adviser.
Can you supply it under our own brand?
Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.
Which documents come with it?
Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.
Where is it manufactured?
Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
