About ramipril
What it treats
Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, to protect the heart after a heart attack, and to protect the kidneys in some people with diabetes. It relaxes the blood vessels so the heart pumps with less effort.
Why it is widely used
Ramipril is inexpensive, taken once a day, and backed by large studies showing fewer heart attacks and strokes in people at high risk, so it is one of the most prescribed heart medicines.
How it is taken
It is taken once or twice a day at a dose the prescriber raises slowly. It can cause a dry cough, and in rare cases swelling of the face and throat, which needs urgent care. It must not be used in pregnancy, and potassium and kidney function are checked during treatment. Patients should always follow the approved label and the prescriber's instructions in their country.

Which strengths of ramipril do you supply?

Is ramipril a prescription medicine?
In most countries, yes. It is sold with a prescription and registered with the national medicines regulator. Rules differ by country, so check with your authority.
Why does ramipril cause a cough?
A dry cough is a known effect of ACE inhibitors and affects a minority of patients. When it is a problem, doctors switch to an angiotensin receptor blocker such as losartan or telmisartan, which we also supply.
