About antacid suspensions
What they treat
Antacid suspensions neutralise stomach acid and give quick relief from heartburn, acid indigestion and sour stomach. Versions with simethicone also ease bloating and trapped wind.
Why they sell
They act within minutes, need no prescription in most countries, and are one of the best-selling pharmacy categories. They are an easy product to private label, in bottles for home and sachets for travel.
How they are taken
One or two spoonfuls are taken after meals and at bedtime, as the label directs, shaking the bottle first. Aluminium can cause constipation and magnesium can loosen the stool, which is why the two are combined. People with kidney disease should take them only on a doctor's advice, and they can affect the absorption of other medicines, so these should be taken a couple of hours apart. Patients should always follow the approved label and the prescriber's instructions in their country.

Which strengths of antacid suspensions do you supply?

Can antacid suspensions be sold without a prescription?
