About rabeprazole

What it treats

Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that lowers the amount of acid the stomach makes. It treats acid reflux and heartburn, ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, and is used with antibiotics to clear Helicobacter pylori.

Why it is chosen

Rabeprazole acts faster than some other PPIs and is less affected by how the body processes it, so doctors often choose it for quick relief. It is popular in India and the wider Asian market.

How it is taken

It is taken once a day, usually before breakfast, swallowed whole with water. Proton pump inhibitors are best taken before a meal, usually in the morning. Long-term use should be reviewed by the prescriber, and they can reduce the absorption of some minerals and medicines. Patients should always follow the approved label and the prescriber's instructions in their country.
