About folic acid
What it is used for
Folic acid (vitamin B9) is used to treat and prevent folate-deficiency anaemia, and, taken before and in early pregnancy, to lower the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida. It is on the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines.
Why programmes buy it
Antenatal programmes give it to women, often with iron, and clinics use it for anaemia and for patients on some medicines, so national medical stores buy it in large volumes.
How it is taken
It is taken once a day, and the dose depends on the purpose: lower daily doses to prevent birth defects and higher ones to treat anaemia, as the guidelines set. It can hide a vitamin B12 deficiency, so the cause of anaemia should be found. Patients should always follow the approved label and the prescriber's instructions in their country.

Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.
