About sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine
What it is used for
Sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine is mainly used today for prevention, not for treating a malaria attack, because resistance has made it unreliable as a treatment in many areas. Programmes give it to women during pregnancy as intermittent preventive treatment, and to young children, with amodiaquine, as seasonal malaria chemoprevention. It is on the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines.
Why programmes buy it
Preventive treatment protects mothers and babies and reduces illness in the malaria season. A single product that is cheap, stable in the heat and given in a few doses makes it practical for national programmes and community delivery, so they buy it in large volumes and expect complete documentation.
How it is taken
Doses are given at set intervals as the programme's guidelines direct, with the number of tablets set by the patient's age or by the stage of pregnancy. It is a sulfonamide, so it is not suitable for people who are allergic to sulfa medicines, and it should be used in pregnancy only as the national guidelines direct. Patients should always follow the approved label in their country.

Which strength of sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine do you supply?
Tablets of 500 mg / 25 mg. Dispersible tablets and programme packs can be made to order, and pack sizes and labelling are made to match the registration in your country.
Can it be used to treat malaria?
In most areas it is no longer used alone to treat malaria, because resistance has made it unreliable. It is used for preventive treatment in pregnancy and, with amodiaquine, for seasonal malaria chemoprevention in children, as national guidelines direct.
Can you supply seasonal malaria chemoprevention packs?
Yes. We can supply sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine for campaigns, packed for the age bands the programme uses, and amodiaquine to go with it, where permitted. Send us the programme's specification and we will confirm what we can provide.
Can you supply it under our own brand?
Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.
Which documents come with it?
Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.
Where is it manufactured?
Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
