About artesunate
What it treats
Injectable artesunate is the first-choice treatment for severe malaria, the form of the disease that can cause organ failure and death, and it is on the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines. Artesunate tablets are used inside combination treatments for uncomplicated malaria, never on their own, because a single artemisinin used alone can encourage drug resistance.
Why hospitals rely on it
Artesunate clears malaria parasites faster than older treatments such as quinine and is easier to give. In severe malaria, hours matter, so national programmes and hospitals buy it in large quantities and expect packs that are quick to prepare and reliable in hot conditions.
How it is given
The injection is given by a healthcare professional into a vein or a muscle, after the powder is dissolved in the supplied solutions. Once the patient can swallow, treatment is completed with a full course of an oral combination such as artemether and lumefantrine. Dosing depends on body weight. Patients should always follow the approved label and the treating clinician's instructions in their country.

Questions about artesunate
Something else? Email [email protected].
Which strengths of artesunate do you supply?
Powder for injection in 60 mg vials, and tablets of 50 mg, 100 mg and 200 mg. Pack sizes and labelling are made to match the registration in your country.
Do you supply the dissolving solutions with the vials?
Yes, packs can include the sodium bicarbonate solution and saline needed to prepare the injection, or the vials can be supplied alone. Tell us the specification your programme or tender uses and we will confirm what we can provide.
Can artesunate tablets be used alone?
No. Artesunate tablets are used as part of a combination, because a single artemisinin used alone can encourage drug resistance. We can pack them with their partner drug in the combinations your guidelines use.
Can you supply tender packs of artesunate injection?
Yes. Progene Pharma supplies vials in hospital and tender packs and the documents tenders usually ask for. Send us the requirements and we will confirm what we can provide.
Can you supply it under our own brand?
Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.
Which documents come with it?
Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.
Where is it manufactured?
Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
