About dihydroartemisinin and piperaquine

What it treats

Dihydroartemisinin and piperaquine is used to treat uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. It is an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), the type of treatment the World Health Organization recommends for this kind of malaria. It is a first-line treatment in several countries, particularly in Southeast Asia, and is used in some malaria programmes beyond treatment.

Why two medicines in one

Dihydroartemisinin acts fast and brings parasite numbers down sharply. Piperaquine is cleared slowly, so it keeps working after the treatment ends and helps protect against new infection for a few weeks. Together they make a three-day course that is simple to take.

How it is taken

Treatment is a short course over three days, once a day, with the dose set by body weight, and it is best taken on an empty stomach rather than with a fatty meal. It is not a treatment for severe malaria, which starts with injectable artesunate. Piperaquine can affect the rhythm of the heart, so it is not suitable for people with heart rhythm problems or those taking certain other medicines. Patients should always follow the approved label in their country.

Something else? Email [email protected].

Which forms of dihydroartemisinin and piperaquine do you supply?

Tablets of 40 mg / 320 mg and a dry syrup for young children. Other strengths and pack sizes by weight band are made to order, and labelling is made to match the registration in your country.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, at the dose set for their weight, and the dry syrup is made for young children who cannot swallow tablets. We pack each weight band in the course length your guidelines use.

Why does the label mention the heart?

Piperaquine can affect the rhythm of the heart, so the approved label advises caution for people with heart rhythm problems or who take medicines with the same effect. The label and leaflet we prepare follow the wording your regulator approves.

Can you supply it under our own brand?

Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.

Which documents come with it?

Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.

Where is it manufactured?

Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?

Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
