About artesunate and amodiaquine

What it treats

Artesunate and amodiaquine is used to treat uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum. It is an artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT), the type of treatment the World Health Organization recommends for this kind of malaria. It is a first-line treatment in many African countries, especially in West and Central Africa, and it is on the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines.

Why two medicines in one

Artesunate acts quickly and brings parasite numbers down sharply, and amodiaquine stays in the body longer to clear the rest. A fixed-dose tablet means the patient takes both together, which makes treatment simpler and more reliable than taking two separate medicines.

How it is taken

Treatment is a short course over three days, once a day, with the dose set by body weight, and the tablets are packed in strengths for each weight band. It is not a treatment for severe malaria, which starts with injectable artesunate. Amodiaquine is not suitable for everyone, including people with liver problems, so patients should always follow the approved label in their country.

Which strengths of artesunate and amodiaquine do you supply?

Tablets of 25 mg / 67.5 mg, 50 mg / 135 mg and 100 mg / 270 mg, packed by weight band. Other strengths approved in your country can be made to order, and pack sizes and labelling are made to match your registration.

Do you make paediatric packs?

Yes. The 25 mg / 67.5 mg and 50 mg / 135 mg tablets are made for infants and young children, and we pack each weight band in the course length your guidelines use.

Is it used for seasonal malaria chemoprevention?

Amodiaquine is also used with sulfadoxine and pyrimethamine for seasonal malaria chemoprevention in children in some regions. That is a different product and pack from this combination, and we can supply both. Tell us the programme's specification and we will confirm what we can provide.

Can you supply it under our own brand?

Yes. Progene Pharma manufactures it as a private label product, with the carton, blister foil or label and patient leaflet designed for your market and your regulator's requirements.

Which documents come with it?

Every batch ships with a Certificate of Analysis (COA). Progene Pharma also provides the Certificate of Pharmaceutical Product (COPP), MSDS and the product dossier you need to register and import it.

Where is it manufactured?

Progene Pharma manufactures it in a WHO-GMP certified facility in India, also certified to EU-GMP and ISO standards. Tell us your destination country and we will confirm which certification applies to your order.

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?

Both depend on the strength, pack size and documents your market needs. We confirm them with your quotation, and we work with large importers as well as smaller distributors.
